REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE 5TH OF NOVEMBER

This Friday, 5 November, PCS, the civil service union is striking. The union is calling for:

* Negotiations, not arbitrary job cuts
* No compulsory redundancies or transfers
* No compulsory extension of the pension age
* No cuts in paid sick leave
* Pay problems sorted out
* To be valued and treated with dignity and respect

This has a potential effect on the IP world since employees of both the Patent Office and the Court Service are members of the union. However, the two organisations have said that, although they will do their best to maintain normal operations, there may be some disruption to the services.

Things to sing on the picket line here and here

  1. Whatever happened to the OHIM employees' strike that we used to read about on the IPKat? No-one else reported it. Was it just a joke?

  2. Shame about the Patent Office people needing to strike: they are so helpful and really do provide a great service. Can't say the same for the Court Service though -- and their website's not up to much either.

Comments will not be allowed if the contravene the IPKat policy that readers' comments should not be obscene or defamatory; they should not consist of ad hominem attacks on members of the blog team or other comment-posters and they should make a constructive contribution to the discussion of the post on which they purport to comment.

It is also the IPKat policy that comments should not be made completely anonymously, and users should use a consistent name or pseudonym (which should not itself be defamatory or obscene, or that of another real person), either in the "identity" field, or at the beginning of the comment. Current practice is to, however, allow a limited number of comments that contravene this policy, provided that the comment has a high degree of relevance and the comment chain does not become too difficult to follow.
