ANCHORS AWAY FOR COMMODORE

The BBC reports that the Commodore computer brand, popular in the 1980s, it to be relaunched. Yeahronimo Media Ventures is in the process of buying the rights to the Commodore name for over £17million and is planning to launch a “worldwide entertainment concept” and possibly a new line of home computers. Although Commodore was pioneering in the home computers market in 1980s, by 1990s it was floundering and, following Commodore’s bankruptcy, the brand was sold to its present owners, Tulip Computers.

The IPKat says this goes to show that the power of a good trade mark can continue long after any serious trade under it has stopped.
