British Institute of International and Comparative Law launches online IP courses

The British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL), currently led by IP personality and academic Spyros Maniatis, is launching a series of virtual courses in different legal fields which will be delivered over the next few months.

"Back" to school ...
Among other things, BIICL is also increasing its offering in the IP training field, by launching a series of short courses focusing on different areas of IP. For the time being, they are two courses that I have designed and will fully or partly deliver:

Copyright and Data, 15 and 16 October 2021

This virtual course provides participants with an understanding of the main principles and rules governing copyright law at the international, regional (European Union), and national level. It also allows them to explore some of the most topical developments facing copyright law today.

Day 1 focuses on the nature and rationale of copyright, as well as requirements and scope of protection. Day 2 is dedicated to the analysis of recent developments and case law, as well as rights in data. On both days, participants will have the opportunity to test their understanding and apply their knowledge of the topics covered by practicing on real-life scenarios.

Trade Marks and Designs, 29 and 30 October 2021

It also allows them to explore some of the most topical developments facing trade marks and designs today.

Day 1 focuses on the nature and rationale of trade mark and design law, as well as requirements and scope of protection. Day 2 is dedicated to the analysis of recent developments and case law. • 15% discount for groups of 3 or more attendees from NGO organizations or staff of government
  • 15% discount for groups of 5 or more attendees from commercial organisations
A limited number of scholarships is also available for each course to provide financial assistance for people who cannot otherwise participate in the courses, and for people from communities that are currently under-represented in the legal community.

All comments must be moderated by a member of the IPKat team before they appear on the blog. Comments will not be allowed if the contravene the IPKat policy that readers' comments should not be obscene or defamatory; they should not consist of ad hominem attacks on members of the blog team or other comment-posters and they should make a constructive contribution to the discussion of the post on which they purport to comment.

It is also the IPKat policy that comments should not be made completely anonymously, and users should use a consistent name or pseudonym (which should not itself be defamatory or obscene, or that of another real person), either in the "identity" field, or at the beginning of the comment. Current practice is to, however, allow a limited number of comments that contravene this policy, provided that the comment has a high degree of relevance and the comment chain does not become too difficult to follow.
