After each of the Summit days,
delegates can also relax at Munich "Kat-temple"

As reported by The IPKat a few weeks ago, this year’s Life Sciences Strategy Summit on IP & Exclusivity is taking place on 10-11 October at Hilton Munich Park. According to the organizers, this will be the first large European IP community gathering since the launch of the Unified Patent Court (UPC).

The programme (available here) has been built to include key players from all disciplines involved in the new system, including 6 UPC judges, to equip attendees with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the new court system.

Confirmed UPC judges include:
  • Margot Kokke, Honourable Judge, UPC Local Division Hague
  • Matthias Zigann, Honourable Judge, UPC Local Division Munich
  • Tobias Pichlmaier, Honourable Judge, UPC Local Division Munich
  • Ronny Thomas, Honourable Judge, UPC Local Division Dusseldorf
  • Marthin Schmidt, Life Science Technical Judge, UPC
  • Rainer Friedrich, Biotech Technical Judge, UPC & CSL Behring
It is expected that 150+ in-house, judicial, regulatory and private practice representatives involved with the inner workings of the UPC will gather for 3 days of practical discussions, interactive roundtables and networking centered around actionable takeaways including:
  1. Courtroom strategy with learnings from initial examples of UPC case law and how it will impact IP protection strategies
  2. Whether to opt -in/-out of the UPC
  3. Building a practical exclusivity strategy with an enhanced understanding the upcoming changes from the European Commission
If you’d like to join this year, the IPKat has also negotiated a special discount for our readers. To save 10% please use "IPKAT" at checkout. For more information on how to register, please click here.

The organizers also wish to inform readers that - if they register before Friday, 9 September - they can save EUR 200 in the registration fee.

All comments must be moderated by a member of the IPKat team before they appear on the blog. Comments will not be allowed if the contravene the IPKat policy that readers' comments should not be obscene or defamatory; they should not consist of ad hominem attacks on members of the blog team or other comment-posters and they should make a constructive contribution to the discussion of the post on which they purport to comment.

It is also the IPKat policy that comments should not be made completely anonymously, and users should use a consistent name or pseudonym (which should not itself be defamatory or obscene, or that of another real person), either in the "identity" field, or at the beginning of the comment. Current practice is to, however, allow a limited number of comments that contravene this policy, provided that the comment has a high degree of relevance and the comment chain does not become too difficult to follow.
