Launch of the Journal of AI Law and Regulation (AIRe)

The Journal of AI Law and Regulation is on. Free access to the first issue is available here, subscriptions are open here. On 11 April 2024, there will be also the official launch event in Brussels during a conference on the AI Act. For more information click here.

AI and domain names in Anguilla

As reported by The New York Times, in Anguilla, a small Caribbean island east of Puerto Rico, the AI surge has translated into substantial economic gains. As the designated domain name for the island, ".ai" has become highly sought-after by companies seeking to showcase their involvement in the AI industry, such as Elon Musk's X.ai website for his AI company. Consequently, Anguilla's government profits from registration fees for ".ai" domain names, ranging from $140 to thousands of dollars per registration, including proceeds from auctions.

Bournemouth IP Summer School

The Centre for Intellectual Property Policy & Management (CIPPM) at Bournemouth University has launched the Intellectual Property Summer School in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). The WIPO – CIPPM Summer School programme will take place virtually (via Zoom) over a period of two weeks, from 6th to 17th May 2024. The programme will consist of lectures, case studies, simulation exercises and group discussions on selected IP topics, with an orientation towards the interface between IP and other disciplines. Registration for the Summer School closes on 15th April 2024.

Global Ph.D. Programme in Law

Católica Global School of Law has just opened the applications for the Global Ph.D. Programme in Law (including IP Law). The new edition of the programme will start in January 2025 and the deadline for applications is 31 May 2024. Forthcoming events

On 2 May 2024 University College London (UCL) will host a Seminar on Collective Licensing and a Workshop on Copyright Solutions jointly organized with EODOPEN. The Seminar will focus on "Collective Licensing as means of rights clearance for access to material in libraries", while the Workshop will be devoted to "Copyright solutions: sustainable digital access to library stacks abroad.” Additional information available here.

On 5 June 2024 the German Association for Intellectual Property Law (GRUR) and the University of Luxembourg are jointly organising the GRUR/uni.lu Joint Conference 2024 at the Palais of the Court of Justice of the European Union in the Kirchberg Plateau in Luxembourg. The general topic of the conference is "Intellectual Property and the European Courts". In occasion of the first anniversary of the Unified Patent Court (UPC), the President of the UPC Court of Appeal will deliver the keynote speech during the morning session.
