What happened?
1. Blogger sent an email to the IPKat account indicating that content associated with Jeremy and Ilanah’s Blogger account would be permanently deleted unless migrated to the Google Account system at the Legacy migration page.
2. Given that the password for the IPKat account was not accepted on the Legacy migration page, Merpel requested a password reset.
3. Then, Merpel got a message from Blogger with the link to regain access to the Blogger account, indicating that the link would allow her to associate Jeremy and Ilanah’s account with a Google Account: "You will use this Google Account to log in to Blogger from now on. You may choose an existing Google Account or create a new one".
4. Unfortunately, after clicking on the link (legacy-claim), there wasn't an option to choose the Google account. Instead of being linked to the IPKat Gmail account (the one Merpel wanted), it was immediately connected to TechieKat’s email address, which in practice meant that all content posted by Jeremy and Ilanah on Blogger now appears as published by the TechieKat.
Practical solution
Merpel and TechieKat have been investigating and contacting relevant parties for several months. Unfortunately, it has not been possible to disassociate the content published by Jeremy and Ilanah from TechieKat’s account so far. Thus, the following practical solution has been applied.
- After the referred Blogger issue, the TechieKat got a new Blogger account, which she has been using and will continue using to post articles on IPKat.
- The old account created by the TechieKat in 2016 (when she joined the IPKat blog), which now also has an incorrect creation date of 2003 and is linked to content published by Jeremy and Ilanah, will be left as it is. This is because tests have been carried out, and any changes to such account are reflected on the relevant blogs (e.g., if the account name is changed, this is reflected on TechieKat’s articles published on IPKat and IPTango).
- All articles published by Jeremy and Ilanah have been tagged “Jeremy and Ilanah” and can be reviewed here or by clicking on the tag visible at the top of any articles published by them (next to the word “Home”). Likewise, the statement “Post by Jeremy and Ilanah:” has been included in all their articles. See below.
Disclaimer
As the practical solution mentioned above was applied and considering that it has not been possible for Blogger’s team to disassociate TechieKat’s older profile from Jeremy and Ilhana’s account, Merpel feels forced to indicate the following disclaimer:
All articles, comments, and other messages posted before 2016 that now appear under the TechieKat’s name (Verónica Rodríguez Arguijo) on the IPKat blog and/or any other blogs hosted on Blogger pertain to Jeremy and Ilhana.

All comments must be moderated by a member of the IPKat team before they appear on the blog. Comments will not be allowed if the contravene the IPKat policy that readers' comments should not be obscene or defamatory; they should not consist of ad hominem attacks on members of the blog team or other comment-posters and they should make a constructive contribution to the discussion of the post on which they purport to comment.
It is also the IPKat policy that comments should not be made completely anonymously, and users should use a consistent name or pseudonym (which should not itself be defamatory or obscene, or that of another real person), either in the "identity" field, or at the beginning of the comment. Current practice is to, however, allow a limited number of comments that contravene this policy, provided that the comment has a high degree of relevance and the comment chain does not become too difficult to follow.
