IP is an ever-changing, evolving field, and so is the IPKat. So, it’s time once again for the IPKat team to welcome new contributors, say “thank you” and “see you soon” to some contributors, and share news about the current Kats.
First up, the IPKat is delighted to welcome the following as new GuestKats and InternKats for the next six months.
GuestKats
Nick Buckland
Nick is a partner in Lewis Silkin’s IP team specializing in IP disputes. He advises across the full range of IP rights, with particular experience in brand protection and enforcement. Nick works with businesses across retail, manufacturing, engineering, media, financial services and technology. He is also Head of Lewis Silkin’s China Desk and is a Mandarin speaker, having lived and worked in China. In addition, Nick heads up the firm’s Solicitor Apprentice scheme, is deputy head of its Race & Ethnicity strand and runs its relationship with Greenwich Foodbank. He has two children, two dogs and (of course) a cat and once in a blue moon manages to make it to the gym! More on Nick here.
Maria Cristina Michelini
Maria Cristina is an Italian-qualified lawyer in the IP/IT team of LCA Studio Legale in Milan. Her main interest is copyright in the digital age: how the law responds to generative AI, from the authorship of AI-generated works to text and data mining, and how online platforms are held accountable for what their users share. She is also passionate about trademarks and designs, especially in fashion and luxury. Maria Cristina wrote her Bocconi thesis on AI and EU copyright law and completed the CopyrightX Fellowship at Harvard Law School. She has lectured on IP and AI at the Il Sole 24 Ore Master’s in Law and Business and sits on the AI & Copyright/Antitrust working group of AIRIA, the Italian Association for AI Regulation. When not lost in Milan’s fog, she happily gets lost in the even foggier questions that AI poses to copyright. More on Maria Cristina here.

Margaux also holds an Advanced Master in Intellectual Property and ICT Law from KU Leuven University, where she further enhanced her expertise in this area. More on Margaux here.
Marta Datcu
Marta is a Romanian-qualified lawyer based in Bucharest, advising clients on intellectual property matters under Romanian and EU law, with experience spanning copyright, design and trademark enforcement. She holds a Master’s in Innovation Law from Sciences Po and a double law degree from the University of Bucharest and Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. Her interests and research sit at the intersection of IP, technology, and human rights. More on Marta here.
Eliana Valenzuela
Eliana is a Peruvian attorney with experience in intellectual property, including trademarks, industrial design, and technology transfer, with a particular interest in the interplay between European, Andean, and U.S. IP frameworks. She worked at INDECOPI, Peru’s national IP authority, and as a legal consultant at the Technology Transfer Office of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Eliana deepened her knowledge through the Magister Lvcentinvs at the Universidad de Alicante, where she developed a particular fondness for patents. Post a Comment
All comments must be moderated by a member of the IPKat team before they appear on the blog. Comments will not be allowed if the contravene the IPKat policy that readers' comments should not be obscene or defamatory; they should not consist of ad hominem attacks on members of the blog team or other comment-posters and they should make a constructive contribution to the discussion of the post on which they purport to comment.
It is also the IPKat policy that comments should not be made completely anonymously, and users should use a consistent name or pseudonym (which should not itself be defamatory or obscene, or that of another real person), either in the "identity" field, or at the beginning of the comment. Current practice is to, however, allow a limited number of comments that contravene this policy, provided that the comment has a high degree of relevance and the comment chain does not become too difficult to follow.
