Virtual Roundtable on Artificial Intelligence, Intellectual Property and Sustainability in Africa (6 May 2024)

On 6 May 2024, the Data Science Law Lab at the University of Pretoria (South Africa) will host a virtual Roundtable on Artificial Intelligence, Intellectual Property and Sustainability in Africa. The goal of the Roundtable is to share information on the efforts, contributions, visions, challenges and plans of the triple helix (government, industry and academia) in managing and addressing the relationships between AI, IPRs and the SDGs. The event will also feature a Quickfire Demo, where postgraduate IP students have the opportunity to win prizes based on their pre-recorded short video thesis (<5 minutes) on various aspects of the interface and relationship between AI, patents and the SDGs. Fashion Law London event "Fashion Reborn: The Age of AI" (13 May 2024)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been disrupting all industries and professional sectors. Fashion is no exception. On 13 May 2024, Fashion Law London is organizing an event (available to attend both in person in London and online) on everything AI, fashion, and the law. Patents in Telecoms and the Internet of Things (16 and 17 May 2024)

On 16 and 17 May, the UCL Institute of Brand and Innovation Law (IBIL) will be hosting its 7th Patents in Telecoms and the Internet of Things Conference at Senate House, London, WC1E 7HU. The conference has a packed agenda, with panels discussing topics including: What assistance can SSOs give in resolving FRAND disputes?; Resolving FRAND Disputes – Is there a better way?; The European Commission Proposal; Platforms and Pools: Where next?; Hot Topics including use of non-SEP patents as part of FRAND negotiations, and culminating in the Judges’ Panel.

GRUR/uni.lu Joint Conference 2024 - Intellectual Property and the European Courts (5 June 2024)

Book launch event - A Critical Introduction to Intellectual Property Law: Text, Cases and Materials (11 June 2024)

On 11 June 2024, a panel discussion will be hosted at City Law School to celebrate the forthcoming release of Patrick Goold's A Critical Introduction to Intellectual Property Law: Text, Cases and Materials (Cambridge University Press).

The topic of the panel's discussion will be the role of interdisciplinary research in IP education. Confirmed speakers include: Lord Justice Richard Arnold (Chair, Court of Appeals for England and Wales), Professor Estelle Derclaye (Nottingham), Professor Justine Pila (Oxford), Professor Martin Kretschmer (Glasgow), and Dr Enrico Bonadio (City). 9th IP and Competition Forum (18 and 19 June 2024)

On 18-19 June 2024, the 9th IP and Competition Forum will take place in Munich (Germany) to address a variety of issues, including: Unified Patent Court, Standard Essential Patents, FRAND, Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Litigation, Licensing, Royalty Rate Determination.

Calls for papers and other opportunities

My Data is Mine Award 2024

The fifth edition of the “My Data is Mine” Award will take place at the Web Summit in Lisbon on 13 November 2024. The event, organized by the Consumer Empowerment Project, seeks to champion young scholars under 35 who are pioneering advancements in data protection and artificial intelligence (AI). Interested parties can submit scholarly papers (5000-8000 words) that delve into critical aspects of data environmentalism within the AI landscape. For further information, click here.

PhD position in “Legal Aspects of Open Science”

A Ph.D. candidate position on the topic “Legal Aspects of Open Science” has been launched in the framework of the interdisciplinary research project FAIROmics, funded by the European Commission through a Marie Curie Doctoral Network (MSCA-DN-JD).
