LEA UITGEVERS - Copyright Contracts Tomorrow - 23 September 2022 - Ghent, Belgium

Held in English with a hands-on comparative approach, this symposium will discuss the future of copyright contract law in light of the brand-new contract law rules in the 2019 Digital Single Market Directive, as well as its implications for the future of copyright contracts in Belgium and its neighbouring countries. 4iP Council - CRISPR Processes Patents in Green Biotechnology: the Benefits of Patent Pools and Clearing Houses - 15 September 2022 - Online

The current CRISPR patent landscape presents a variety of barriers to research, innovation, and profit. In order to overcome the difficulties created by the overall presence of patents, patent pools and clearing houses two alternative licensing models have been attracting the most interest. The aim of 4iP's webinar on 15 September 2022 (4:00pm, CEST) is to examine the potential use of IP of these licensing platforms to mitigate some of these roadblocks. WIPO - Research Fellowship - Global Innovation Index (GII)

There is a new position open in the WIPO’s Department on Economics and Data Analytics (DEDA), IP, and Innovation Ecosystems Sector. The Composite Indicator Research Section in DEDA coordinates the publication of WIPO's flagship Global Innovation Index (GII) used by Member States and innovation actors to improve innovation outcomes and national innovation metrics, policies, or strategies. It explores new data sources for better measuring innovation and creativity, in view of improving national innovation ecosystems. The GII fellow is expected to contribute to the DEDA-IES research and activities on innovation data conceptualization, collection, and creation, as well as in supporting member countries in their use of the GII to improve their innovation ecosystems, including sub-national innovation systems, among other tasks. Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition - Senior Research Fellows/Postdocs (m/f/d) in Economics/Management of Innovation

The department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research is looking for outstanding and motivated researchers to apply as Postdocs in Economics or Management. The term of appointment is three years, but can be extended to six years. Researchers at the Institute are expected to independently carry out basic research in the fields of innovation (with a possible focus on intellectual property rights, digitalization, economics of science, organization of innovation processes, human resources, international management, or health care), entrepreneurship (e.g., entrepreneurial finance, entrepreneurship education, entrepreneurial teams), and behavioral foundations (e.g., incentives for creativity, innovation motives and behaviour, inventor characteristics and personality). The Institute provides access to outstanding research infrastructure, including large-scale databases and its own experimental laboratory. The working language is English. Candidates can apply here preferably by 31 July 2022.

European Commission seeks views and input on compulsory licensing of patents

The European Commission is open for suggestions on how to build a more efficient and coordinated compulsory licensing scheme in the EU, reduce current fragmentation and improve Europe's resilience in managing crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The consultation also gathers views on improving harmonisation, coordination between EU Member States and coordination with the Commission. Furthermore, the consultation gathers views to assess the procedure for granting compulsory licences of patents relating to the manufacture of pharmaceutical products for export purposes to non-EU countries, as regulated by Regulation 816/2006 on compulsory licensing of patents relating. The initiative would not aim to make the use of compulsory licensing more frequent but to ensure that the system functions more efficiently and that the EU is better equipped to address EU-wide crises. The consultation will be open until 29 September 2022 and is available on the Have Your Say portal.

Since 2019, the Premi Adepi (Adepi Award) has recognized the work of people and institutions that work for the protection and development of intellectual property in general, and the collective management of rights in particular, from fields such as politics, education, economics or law, thus contributing to the creation of culture in a fair and sustainable way. The International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC) launches Asia Office in Singapore

IVSC, the global valuation standards setter, picks Singapore as its first base outside Europe, highlighting Asia’s growing role in the valuation profession on the world stage, and catalysing the growth of the valuation industry in Singapore.

"Dear media friends,

The International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC) has selected Singapore as its first base outside Europe to drive its advocacy efforts in the adoption of International Valuation Standards (IVS) in Asia. This signifies Asia’s growing role in raising the standards of valuation; and Singapore’s growth in the Business Valuation (BV), Intangible Assets (IA) and real estate valuation space. IVSC is the independent global standards setter responsible for IVS, which are extensively used throughout the world.

This was announced by Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, and Second Minister for Finance and National Development; and Co-Chairperson of the Singapore IP Strategy 2030 Steering Committee.

The new office receives strong public and private sector support from the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), the Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC), the Economic Development Board (EDB), DBS Bank, UOB, OCBC Bank, SEA Group, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC)."
