Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights - Forty-Seventh Session (1-5 December 2025)

The WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) was established in 1998, pursuant to a decision of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO to establish Standing Committees to take over the functions of existing committees of experts. The SCCR was “to consider emerging issues in this field,” so that “WIPO activities aimed at developing the international system for protecting copyright and related rights will be better harmonized, more thoroughly prepared and more transparent.” The 47th session is now taking place between 1 and 5 December 2025. The EUIPO Boards of Appeal: A Constant European IP Success Story (9 December 2025)

As part of its Global Digital Encounters, on 9 December 2025, FIDE is organizing an online event titled 'The EUIPO Boards of Appeal: A Constant European IP Success Story' to mark one year of the Chairmanship of Sven Stürmann. News

AI Inventorship

Earlier this week, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) published revised inventorship guidance for AI-assisted inventions, rescinding its February 2024 guidance on this topic in its entirety. The new guidance underscores longstanding precedent that the same legal standard for determining inventorship applies to all inventions, regardless of whether AI systems were used in the inventive process. No new, separate or modified standard is created for or applies to AI-assisted inventions. That means that only natural persons can be properly named as inventors on patent applications.

Call for Papers: Rethinking Liability in the Age of AI

The Cambridge Forum on AI: Law and Governance, which is is part of the Cambridge Forum journal series, progresses cross-disciplinary conversations on issues of global importance. The journal is now inviting submissions for the upcoming Themed Issue 'Rethinking Liability in the Age of AI: European and Comparative Perspectives'. The deadline for submissions is 28 February 2026.
