BROWN ON IP

The Pre-budget Report is ongoing, but Gordon Brown (right) appears to have said his bit on IP.

As well as some guff on making money from the UK's 'ideas' (hm, says the IPKat), Brown mentioned 3 things:

1. Stronger enforcement
2. A private copying exception
3. Fast-track trade marks for small businesses

The IPKat says that point 3 is a bit of a surprise.

  1. No need to get snarky about making money from "ideas". I gather Gordon Brown has patented the copyright on that, so it's trademarked now.

More seriously, news of a private copying exception sounds promising. A chance to bring the law into line with reality.
