The AmeriKat putting one paw into the summer IP Season |
1. The 10th Annual Sir Hugh Laddie Lecture: The AmeriKat cannot believe it has been 10 years since the inaugural Sir Hugh Laddie Lecture - which she attended as a tiny LL.M IP kitten. This year, on 20 June 2018 from 6PM, His Honour Michael Fysh QC SC will be delivering this year's lecture entitled "Apologia pro vita sua: A hifi retrospective and modest prospective". For those who did not have the joy of studying Latin at school, the translation of the title is "A defence of one's own life", thus promising to be an insightful and entertaining evening. The event description states that the "former Patents County Court judge will speak of his own experiences, good, bad and neutral over fifty years as an IP practitioner" ranging from "his time as a disappointed organic chemist at Oxford, to the day Mr Laddie arrived in Chambers as a pupil and to his near demise in the Caribbean at the hands of the Mafia." The event is free of charge. To book your place click here.
2. US Pharma Litigation under the Hatch-Waxman Act: A different sort of US delegation will be welcomed on Thursday at the London offices of Kilburn & Strode. The event is a rare chance to receive a talk from US practitioners on US pharma patent litigation under the Hatch-Waxman Act, including Paragraph IV filings and the Orange Book. If that all sounds like Greek to you, then you should probably come along, as understanding how pharma litigation works in the biggest market (the US) is crucial to properly advising your clients on their national and global patent litigation strategy. Following the talk there will be an opportunity for networking with AIPLA delegates, AIPPI members and other event attendees (i.e., there will be wine and food). The event is free for AIPPI members. 3. Summer IP Parties: Two have made the AmeriKat's list this year - the Annual AIPPI Garden Party on 25 June 2018 on the roof of Norton Rose Fulbright with stunning views of Tower Bridge and the City twinkling from across the river. This year it is being held on a more sober Monday, but still promises to be full of mirth and merriment. To register click here. But before that on 18 June 2018 (also a Monday) is the UNION-IP Summer event at the Royal Society with Lord Neuberger joining to share his IP insights from the "top". To register click here.
Some dates for the calendar here! Thanks for this article, and for putting the booking links in. Are there any of these that you would describe as not-to-miss?
